My Church
I attend the Ephrata United Zion Church, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. I am in the College and Career class. I do Sound for the church and I am very active in the Praise and Worship Team. I hope to get the church to buy a projection system for use in the sanctuary. I want to be more involved in the church and missions, but school limits this. I want God to be an important part of my life. Below are some emails sent from Kevin Felpel, the most recent emails are at the bottom. ALL PICTURES ARE FROM KEVIN IN GUATEMALA!

Kevin Update #1 9/7/04
Yo, Yeah so i made it to winnipeg FINALLY. I would like to say that i had a good, long trip and feel like i have now seen all of Canada. Well, almost. Anyhow, it is freezing up here, i don't know how these people do it. There were people swimming in lake superior as we drove past and i was sitting on the bus in a sweatshirt feeling a bit chilled myself. Yeah, ok the bus ride was like 49 hrs so i am really ready to go run around a bit. I have just arrived at the university like within the past hour and have met all the staff. I was picked up by Chad, one of my leaders, and so we chilled together at starbucks and then had breakfast. The leaders are all very cool people and i'm very excited to get to know them better and to meet the students in my site who will begin arriving tomarrow. So, for today, i will be hanging out at the university with the staff and catching up on some sleep. So, i thank you all for your prayers so far, but really the real trip is only begining tomarrow, so don't stop now. Ok, well thanks again, and miss you all. In Christ, Kevin |
Kevin Update #2 9/25/04
hey, wow sorry that i haven't kept in contact here. this is like my first time on email at camp and i only have have per week at that. to make it more awkward, i'm using a laptop which for an unknown reason, seems to be more difficult than a normal comp. imagine that. i would like to say thanks for all the prayers and thoughts in the past weeks. our "team" or whatever u want to call it, is so tight and everyone is finding themselves a home here. Not like i'm staying in Canada or anything! Well, we've had a week of class study on worship, then went an a rather intense canoe trip which was a 4 day 3 night experience which we paddled 60k and portaged like 3 k. it vwas such an awesome and challenging time. like i've never just sat in a canoe with 1 other person and paddled for like 8 hrs. You really can get to know a person very well with nothing else to do. we were actually paddling on a part of lake winnipeg which is a very large lake. Anyhow, we are now finishing up a week of studies on "idols". i parenthasis this because these issues we are talking about i have never gone as far to say that they are idols. i'll explain later, i can't type. So next week, we have another week of studies, then we drive 18 hrs. to alberta to another camp and so on. i really don't know the schedule, but if you have any questions the outtatown website is outtatown.com and i'm on the guatamala site 1. in a week or so, updated pics should start randomly appearing. on that note, the weather is a little warmer than normal they say a probably at about a 60 deg. we should be getting frost here though. and when we get to alberta, we'll be close to banff, which just recieved a good snowing. i'm stoked! i'm reallly stoked for the visit from Craig next weekend, because i've now learned that his wedding date is on the 10th of dec. and we leave alberta on the 8th in minniapalis, which is gonna make this very interesting. i just feel like i lost my bro, and i couldn't even spend our last year together. so ok well, i gotta leave ya with that because as you guessed it, i'm over my time. sorry, when i get to alberta, we'll have access anytime. so continue to seek God i'll talk to ya's later! In Christ, felpel

Yet another scene from this beautiful world. |
Kevin Update #4 10/24/04
hey yo, what up, its been a while i think. i hope everyone is doing and well havin a great fall. well, sorry about the lack of commun., but cause there is none. or well hardly. anyhow, i'm on vancouver island right now staying at jeffery's house, a bro from school, recovering after a week of living on the streets in vancouver. Got a few good stories from that, but for an overview i seen a man dead from OD, people shooting/smoking up on the street, had to find food at soup kitchens, chilled with the our homeless homies that we befriended, panhandled (or begged), learned from experience how to tare apart atm machine from another homie in an alleyway, had casual convers. with a few drug dealers that ended after they figured we had no money, seen the whole sex industry in action as well and walked around one night to hand out roses to the prostitutes, oh and discovered a few other religions as well. oh and a knife fight as well. I began to realize that i began to love the excitment of the city. i also realized that with my good 11/2 week beard and some of my most comfy and worn clothes that i was taken as a homie a few times as well. i am actually enrolled in a troubled teen program as a troubled teen because i walked in and they signed me up. i just went along with it. so it totally was a drastic change from the life we lived when on the houseboats a weekend ago. we had 2 very sweet boats and we ate like the best foood and sat around and went hottubing, jumped of the tops of the roof, a good 25 ft, and did a few hikes when we beached. that was in B.C as well. on monday we drive all day back to sylvan, Alberta again for another week and then on the weekend and for my birthday, the guys from all the sites are getting together somewheres in B.C again. yeah, so i'm just havin as much fun as is allowed because i've found that that is what God wants for us. I think my greatest revelation this year has been that i can't stand school, and that God can teach us other ways if we're willing to open our eyes and ears to see what it is. i've learned more by watching our speakers as they stay with us for the week, cause they all have been super crazy guys, and just learning by their example more than what they speak about. So anyhow, its been fanfreakentastic so far and i'm excited for whats ahead. By the way, to Regina the name of the cd is picking up the pieces. thanks for reading my short novel about my last week, and let me know your thoughts or how your doing or just say hey. whatever! God Bless. Kevo

Que pasa, dude guys, i am drained. not really phsically, but mentally. got a little bit of culture shock i guess, not bad though, but this whole spanish thing is really tough. today was our first day of work, was not too bad, but the day seems so long when u r just shoveling ground and throughin some blocke around. Its all for God though, and i really do love it. the people r quite hospitible and i love trying to converse with them even though there becomes this ackward silence after the first 30 sec. We arrived in Guate on thurs. evening after a fairly smooth trip. it started as we left winnipeg to bus to minniapolis where we had a flight leaving the next mornin. We left ahead of a big blizzard that was blowin in and made it there at 2 am, so while waiting for our flight to leave at 4 we caught a few zzzz. caught the plane to connection in Atlanta, Georgia where we found that guate city airport was closed due to a strike. Well, we ended up catching a flight and landing ok. i heard that they brought mexicans down to replace the guates. whatever, now were in Mazatango staying in college dorms. dont for a minute think we got it easy. we thought we were gonna, but i would almost rather sleep on my bag outside and shower with a hose and do the releaving of yourself the natural way. I am grateful for it all though, even the beans 3 times a day. dont get me wrong, i would not have it any other way. we r here for the next 2 weeks, then we move into antigua to live with our new families and study some of this here spanish stuff. Well, thanx for all the prayers so far, i really seen God involved here and that is exciting to see. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know whats up, cause i d really like to know. oh, Lori i got ur connections, thanx a lot. i havent tried them out yet though. Well, chat with ya s later, gotta go. In Christ, Kevin |

howdy folks, first things first. The eagles r in the bowl, acarumba. i got to watch the game, i was pumped on that, but i didn´t c the steelers game. news from guate. it seems like a lot happened from the last update, but i´m lovin it and have adapted quite well. my spanish is coming along, and get this. joel and i were even interviewed on a radio station here mostly in spanish. it was a very random happening and no need for further explaining. ok, well we have 2 days remaining of work with habitat and i´m pumped on that because i´m super tired and there has been a lot of sickness here within the group, so the remaining ones have less help. There r about 55 of us and maybe 35-40 that r still working. there r that many because site 1 and 2 have joined here in guate. we r working on 7 differents houses, a house for each small group. other than being tired, i have been feeling well and the like 95 deg. sun has left a mark on me and my bald head. this weekend we meet and move into our families homes and will be starting spanish lessons next week as well. i´m excited to learn more because i really want to talk to this niños. Well, God has been teaching me patience, self-discipline, and has been testing my servant heart. it has been super great, but also kinda tough. So if ya guys could pray for the sick, and just the strength the morals of the group. Thanx, God bless, and have fun in the snow! In Christ, Kevin
